  1. THE ICON COLLECTION

  4. There are many collections of icons available and many have been given 
  5. away with magazines. Typically these are organised by name. The names 
  6. do not always reflecting what they are. They are stored as individual 
  7. files, with the occasional  .EXE. Although each icon is only 766 bytes 
  8. it takes far more space on the hard disk. All the collections that I 
  9. have seen have duplicates, and this collection is possible no different; 
  10. inspite of my best efforts to eliminate them.

  12. I set out to find icons that I could use for the programs that I have 
  13. been developing. Certainly some icons have been useful in other project, 
  14. but not to my business application. 
  15.  
  16. I have combined all the icons that I have found todate and organised 
  17. them by topic or program type. You may disagree with my categories, but 
  18. in general they hare more useful this way. Ideally an icon database 
  19. would be more useful, but the disk space required can not be justified. 
  20.  
  21. I have then used Icon Master to compress each topic or group into it's 
  22. own format which has then been zipped to further reduce the size. I 
  23. have now freed 50 Mbytes of space for the 7000 icons in this collection.

  25. A secondary benefit is that I no longer need to keep the 7000 icons on 
  26. my hard disk. The whole collection can be viewed from the floppy disk.

  28. Requirements
  29.  
  30. 1.      Icon Master (1.1b or later) by Phillip A Kaufman 
  31.     (if not supplied with this collection)
  32. 2.      PkZip 2.04g
  33.  
  34. Both of these shareware packages are available from any of the Shareware 
  35. and public domain libraries.
  36.  
  37. There is no fee or charge for this collection of icons, having done the 
  38. work in re-organising them I offer the set back into the public domain. 
  39.  
  40. If you have an alternative collection, or just a few icons that are not 
  41. included then please send a copy to me at the address below. I will then 
  42. include them in the next release.
